Hospital Presumed Administrative Error, Body “Misplaced” in Morgue

The family of Anald Bucktawor is in distress following the alleged misplacement of his body at the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital morgue. His son, Prakash Bucktawor, a 35-year-old merchant, has filed a police complaint regarding the incident, which he describes as a catastrophic administrative error.

Anald Bucktawor, 69, passed away early Saturday morning at 2:30 AM from health complications related to his age and pre-existing medical conditions.

A respected figure in his community, he had previously worked as a street vendor and a security guard, dedicating his life to providing for his family despite ongoing health challenges.

His death has left a significant void, and the circumstances surrounding it have compounded the family’s grief.

Prakash arrived at the hospital on Saturday at 4:00 AM, where he was given the necessary paperwork to transfer his father’s body to the morgue.

However, when he returned at 8:30 AM to finalize the arrangements, a mix-up occurred.

“The nurse told me to wait. When I went to the morgue with an officer, they opened the cold storage, but we couldn’t find my father’s body.

All that remained was his personal belongings,” he recounted, visibly shaken.

After extensive searching through various rooms, Prakash ultimately discovered his father’s body concealed under a sheet.

“When I lifted the sheet to see his face, I confirmed it was him.

However, the morgue attendant informed me that they could not release the body because another name was listed in their records,” he explained.

This moment added another layer of anguish for a son already overwhelmed by the loss of his father.

The ordeal continued as Prakash was sent back and forth to Room 2.4, where a nurse attempted to amend the inaccuracies in the medical records.

“She ended up crossing everything out and rewriting it all.

We lost over an hour trying to sort out this issue,” he reported, exhausted from the absurdity of the situation.

Eventually, the family received their father’s body, but the incident caused significant delays in the funeral plans.

“The burial, which was supposed to take place earlier, was pushed to 2:30 PM for the cremation.

This was humiliating for us and a disrespect to my father,” Prakash lamented, his voice trembling.

Frustrated by what he considers negligence, Prakash lodged an official complaint at the Rose-Belle police station on January 21.

He also attempted to reach out to the Ministry of Health but was met with silence: “No one answered the phone.

It is unacceptable for such negligence to occur in a hospital. I am prepared to take legal action to seek justice.”

Prakash Bucktawor urged health authorities to take immediate action to prevent other families from facing similar ordeals.

“This isn’t just about procedure. It’s about respect for the deceased and dignity for their loved ones.”

As the Bucktawor family is seeking answers, they remain resolute in their pursuit of justice in the wake of this distressing experience.
