2 Arrested, Rs 30 Million Seizure in Crystal Meth, Drug & Firearm

In a significant operation carried out by the Anti-Drug Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the Western Division, two brothers were apprehended early Saturday morning, January 25, after authorities seized a substantial cache of illegal drugs and a firearm from their luxurious home in Albion.

During the raid, officers recovered two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, valued at approximately Rs 30 million, alongside 500 grams of cannabis estimated at Rs 1.5 million.

Additionally, a shotgun was found on the premises.

The brothers are now facing charges for drug trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm, and they are set to appear in court on Monday, January 27.

The operation took place during the early hours of Saturday, with both suspects present at the time of the raid.

Officers from ADSU, operating under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ramburuth, conducted the arrest and subsequently transported the suspects to the ADSU headquarters in the west.

Forensic officers, members of the Special Supporting Unit (SSU), and photographers were deployed to assist in the investigation.

The raid was executed in a two-story luxury home, which the brothers allegedly used for their illicit activities.

The choice of the upscale Albion neighborhood was strategic, as the area is not typically associated with criminal behavior, helping the suspects evade suspicion.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement found the suspects on the first floor of the house.

A thorough search was carried out in their presence by various police units under the oversight of ADSU officials.

Following the discovery of the drugs and the shotgun, the suspects remained silent and did not provide any information to the officers.

Samples of the seized drugs have been secured and will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.

Interrogations of the suspects are anticipated to take place in the coming days as the investigation continues.
