A Czech couple’s holiday in Mauritius took a violent turn on the afternoon of Saturday, 6 May, when two armed individuals attacked them near the public beach of Bel-Ombre.

The attackers, who made off with two mobile phones and a handbag belonging to the tourists, fled the scene after the incident, leaving the couple injured.

The couple, who had only arrived on the island the previous day and were set to leave on May 12, immediately alerted the police.

Thanks to swift action by investigators from the Field Intelligence Office (FIO) of the Southern Division, the two suspects were quickly traced.

The attackers were identified as residents of Baie-du-Cap, and reportedly confessed to their involvement in the assault during interrogation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The suspects were reportedly brought before a court on Monday, 8 May, to face provisional charges.
