Police Discover Blood Traces in Car After Doctor Reported Partner Missing 2 Weeks
A 48-year-old doctor has been arrested by Mauritius’s Major Crimes Investigation Team (MCIT) following the disappearance of his partner, 37-year-old Yogeshwaree Bhunjun, who has not been seen since 23 February 2026.
The arrest follows a forensic examination of the couple’s vehicle, where investigators—assisted by the Forensic Science Laboratory—discovered traces of blood using BlueStar® Forensic, a high-sensitivity luminol-based reagent.
The suspect, identified as Arvind R., was detained on Tuesday, 10 March, evening following interrogation.
He has denied any involvement in the disappearance of the mother of his two children, claiming that the blood found in his vehicle likely originated from meat he had purchased.
He is scheduled to appear in court today, Wednesday, 11 March.
Dispute and delayed report
The investigation into the disappearance intensified after inconsistencies emerged regarding the timeline of events.
Arvind R. had previously told the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) on Monday, 9 March, that he had engaged in a domestic dispute with his partner on 23 February before leaving their home.
He claimed that upon his return several hours later, Ms. Bhunjun was gone.
The doctor waited three days before reporting his partner missing to the Plaine-des-Papayes police, initially filing a “precautionary measure” alleging she had deserted their home.
Familial concerns
The disappearance was also formally flagged by the victim’s father, Suryaprakash, two days prior to the doctor’s latest police interview.
He reported having had no contact with his daughter since a telephone call on 11 January.
Providing context to the relationship, the victim’s father noted that the couple had been together for approximately 12 years and share two children, aged two years and eight months.
Official police records indicate that Ms. Bhunjun had previously filed complaints against her partner for domestic violence in August 2024 and August 2025.
