Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam has called upon the nation’s students to take up the mantle of leadership and actively construct the future of Mauritius, marking the country’s 58th anniversary of Independence and 34th anniversary of the Republic.

In a message delivered today, 11 March, the Prime Minister urged young people not to view their freedom as a given, but as a responsibility requiring discipline, perseverance, and integrity.

He emphasised that the youth are the architects of the nation’s path ahead, tasked with overcoming complex modern challenges.

“The direction is clear. It is now up to you to rise and build the future,” Mr. Ramgoolam stated.

Addressing the students, the Prime Minister outlined a vision rooted in innovation, specifically highlighting the integration of research and artificial intelligence.

Central to this strategy is the establishment of a Digital Special Economic Zone in Côte d’Or, which the government intends to serve as a primary engine for national development.

Mr. Ramgoolam warned that the country faces significant hurdles, including the escalating threats posed by climate change, food security concerns, and the proliferation of illegal drugs.

To navigate these issues, he insisted that the next generation must uphold core values of honesty and excellence to drive the country forward.

The message served as both a commemorative address for the national anniversaries and a strategic challenge to the student body to prepare for the evolving demands of the global landscape.
