Minister Confirms Fuel Arrival by 12 March as Oil Tender Opens
A tanker carrying essential fuel supplies has departed Oman and is expected to dock in Mauritius by 17 March, providing a significant boost to the island’s energy reserves.
Minister of Commerce Michaël Sik Yuen issued a reassuring statement on Monday afternoon, 9 March, confirming that the vessel set sail at 6:00 PM.
The Minister told Radio Plus that the current supply levels for both petrol and diesel remain stable across the country.
Supply Timeline
The arrival of the Oman tanker is part of a broader logistical effort to maintain steady reserves. In addition to the petrol and diesel shipment, Mr Sik Yuen confirmed that a consignment of gas is already en route and is scheduled to reach Port Louis by 12 March.
Emergency Measures for Fuel Oil
While petrol, diesel, and gas supplies appear secure, the outlook for fuel oil remains more complex. As of Monday, no specific vessel has been confirmed for this particular commodity.
In response, the Ministry has activated a contingency “Plan B” to prevent any potential shortages:
- New Tender: A fresh call for tenders for the chartering of a fuel oil vessel was launched this Monday.
- Rapid Turnaround: The bidding process is set to close within 48 hours to ensure a swift resolution.
Minister Sik Yuen maintained that despite the lack of a confirmed ship for fuel oil, the activation of these emergency protocols is designed to safeguard the nation’s requirements.
