Education officials have recorded a marginal improvement in national performance for the 2025 Higher School Certificate (HSC) cohort, with the pass rate climbing to 78.98%.

The latest figures, released by the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES) on Tuesday afternoon, 10 February, show a slight increase from the previous year’s success rate of 78.88%.

Serge Ng Tat Chung, the Director of the MES, described the 0.1% growth as a “slender but notable” progression for the island’s students.

Rise of the State Sector

During a press briefing, Mr. Ng Tat Chung highlighted a significant “surge in power” among several state secondary schools.

He specifically commended the performance of three institutions that have positioned themselves strongly in this year’s results:

  • Sir Leckraz Teelock SSS
  • Lady Sushil Ramgoolam SSS
  • James Burty David SSS

Scholarship Distribution

Beyond the headline pass rate, the MES director noted a shift in the academic landscape regarding the allocation of laureates.

This year’s results reflect a broader “widening of the distribution of scholarships,” suggesting that top academic honours are being shared across a more diverse range of institutions than in previous years.
