PMs Modi & Ramgoolam Discuss 2 Nations’ Historic Ties Ahead of AI Summit
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has held a telephone conversation with his Mauritian counterpart, Navin Ramgoolam, to strengthen bilateral cooperation and confirm a high-level diplomatic visit to India next week.
Writing on Facebook, Mr Modi announced that he will welcome Mr Ramgoolam to India for the upcoming AI Impact Summit.
The summit is set to bring together global leaders, industry experts, and businesses to explore how artificial intelligence can drive economic development, technological innovation, and the enhancement of public services.
A shared roadmap for progress
The discussion served as a progress report on the cooperation between the two nations since the leaders’ previous meeting in Varanasi last year. Key points of the call included:
- Bilateral Strengthening: A mutual commitment to reinforcing the historic, “people-centric” bonds between India and Mauritius.
- Regional Security: A shared pledge to maintain peace and stability across the Indian Ocean.
- Technological Ethics: A focus on the “responsible and inclusive” use of AI, with a specific emphasis on its benefits for developing nations.
Advancing the AI agenda
The upcoming summit represents a significant step in the India–Mauritius partnership. Beyond infrastructure and historical ties, both leaders are pivoting toward the future of technology.
Discussions at the event are expected to highlight how AI applications can be harnessed to improve the lives of citizens while ensuring no country is left behind in the digital race.
“The summit will be an opportunity to discuss a responsible and inclusive use of AI, particularly for developing countries.”
