3 Aircraft Grounded as Air Mauritius Faces Fleet Crisis on Rodrigues Route
Air Mauritius has issued an urgent advisory to travellers as its flight schedule to and from Rodrigues faces significant disruption due to a critical shortage of available aircraft.
The national flag carrier confirmed on Sunday, 8 February, that out of its dedicated fleet of four ATR 72 aircraft, only one is currently operational for the Rodrigues route.
The airline cited a combination of mandatory maintenance and technical failures as the cause for the grounding of the majority of its regional fleet.
Fleet Grounded
The shortage was triggered by three of the airline’s four ATR 72s being taken out of service simultaneously:
- One aircraft is undergoing a mandatory heavy maintenance “C-Check.”
- A second aircraft is currently receiving routine scheduled servicing.
- A third aircraft has been grounded in Rodrigues since Saturday following a technical fault.
Passenger Impact
Air Mauritius stated that its teams are monitoring the situation closely and are working to restore normal service “as soon as possible.”
Affected passengers are being updated on their flight status via the airline’s call centre.
In a statement released this Sunday, the airline apologised for the inconvenience caused by the perturbations.
A spokesperson emphasised that the measures were necessary as the safety of passengers and crew remains the company’s “absolute priority.”
