PMO Issues Urgent Warning Over Fake Identity Documents

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has launched an urgent alert following the discovery of a fraudulent scheme involving the distribution of falsified Mauritius Citizenship Certificates and National Identity Cards to non-citizens.

Authorities revealed that management companies have been charging substantial sums of money to unsuspecting clients.

These firms reportedly claimed the documents were being officially issued by the PMO, a claim the government has categorically denied.

Strict New Application Protocols

In response to the scam, the PMO has reiterated that there is no “fast-track” or third-party route to residency or identification. To maintain the integrity of national security, the following rules are now strictly enforced:

• Personal Attendance: Every application for citizenship or an ID card must be made in person.
• Direct Processing: Documents must be processed directly through the Prime Minister’s Office or official Identity Card units.
• No Intermediaries: The government will not accept applications submitted via management companies or any other third party.

Call for Public Cooperation

Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity regarding the issuance of these official documents.

Non-citizens seeking legitimate information are advised to consult official government websites or visit the relevant department offices in person to avoid falling victim to fraud.

The PMO stressed that any attempted fraud must be reported to the authorities immediately.
