Grand Master Bruno Dumazel Dies at 63 After Leading for 10 years
Bruno Dumazel, the sitting Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mauritius and a prominent surveyor, passed away on Monday, 2 February, following a long illness. He was 63.
Mr Dumazel had led the Mauritian Freemasonry community for approximately a decade. His tenure, however, was marked by recent turbulence; in 2025, the organisation saw the departure of around 100 members who left to establish a rival body, the United Grand Lodge of Mauritius.
In addition to his masonic duties, Mr Dumazel was a significant figure in the island’s cultural landscape, serving as the President of the Alliance Française de l’Île Maurice for over a quarter of a century, from 2000 until 2026.
Funeral
The funeral service conducted at 10:00 on Wednesday, 4 February, at the Sacré-Cœur Church in Beau-Bassin. Following the service, Mr Dumazel will be laid to rest at the Saint-Jean cemetery in Quatre-Bornes.
