Investigation Launched After 8-Month-Old Baby Found Dead in Swimming Pool
A police investigation has been launched following the death of an eight-month-old boy who drowned in a children’s pool at his babysitter’s home on Saturday afternoon, 31 January.
The infant, identified as Ahaan Dasootee, was playing alongside his older sister at the residence in Petit-Raffray when the tragedy occurred.
Despite being rushed to the Goodlands Mediclinic by the 39-year-old babysitter, medical staff could only confirm the child’s death upon arrival.
Investigation and Police Questioning
The babysitter, who had been entrusted with the care of both children, is currently being questioned by Goodlands police. According to her statement:
- The infant was under her direct responsibility at the time of the incident.
- She discovered the eight-month-old in the children’s pool after he had been playing.
- The tragedy reportedly unfolded in a matter of moments.
A Family in Mourning
The parents, Suraj and Samantha Dasootee, expressed their profound shock and grief as they struggle to comprehend how the incident happened so quickly.
“We did not expect it; a misfortune has occurred,” the couple shared, noting their desperate search for answers regarding the circumstances of their son’s death.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled on Saturday evening, 31 January, to determine the exact cause of death.
Local authorities have confirmed that a full police inquiry is now underway to establish the timeline of events at the babysitter’s home.
