The Fatal Assault

During a preliminary hearing conducted from his hospital bed at the Nord Hospital in Pamplemousses, Kemayou detailed the moments leading up to the 30-year-old woman’s death.

He told detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) that he struck Ms Saminaden in the head with a table during an argument.

According to his statement, he then pushed her to the floor, causing her to lose consciousness. It was following this assault that the suspect allegedly moved the baby to a barrel outside the property and fled.

Post-Mortem Findings

An autopsy performed by Police Medical Officer Dr Ananda Sunnassee confirmed that Ms Saminaden died from severe skull injuries. The examination also revealed:

  • Multiple incisions across her body.
  • A dislocated left shoulder.
  • Evidence of chronic abuse, with medical reports noting a mix of both old and recent injuries.

Flight and Apprehension

The suspect further admitted to fleeing to Anse-La-Raie beach after the incident. While at the beach, he reportedly threatened a young boy with a knife.

Kemayou remains under police guard at the hospital while the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the condition of the infant.
