All nurseries and childcare centres across the country will remain closed today, Wednesday 31 December, following an official heavy rain warning issued by the Vacoas meteorological station.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare announced the emergency closure this 31 December in response to deteriorating weather conditions.

The decision aims to ensure the safety of young children and staff as the island faces significant rainfall on the final day of the year.

Official Guidance

In a formal statement released early this Wednesday, the Ministry urged parents and guardians to keep children at home. Government officials have recommended that the public take all necessary safety precautions while the weather warning remains in effect.

Ministry Statement

The Ministry expressed its gratitude to the public for their cooperation during this disruption. While no specific reopening time has been confirmed, the closure applies strictly to the duration of the current meteorological risk.

The Ministry thanks members of the public for their understanding and recommends that everyone takes the necessary precautions,” the statement read.
