Over 46,000 Illegal Plastic Bags seized in Riche-Terre Factory Raid
Officers from the Environmental Police, supported by the Ministry of Environment’s Plastic Division, descended on the facility to uncover a large-scale illicit production operation. More than 46,000 illegal plastic bags have been confiscated following a targeted raid on a manufacturing plant in the Riche-Terre industrial zone on Thursday, December 18.
Massive Haul of Contraband
The operation resulted in the seizure of 46,372 plastic bags of various designs. Authorities confirmed the haul included:
- Roll-on bags
- Vest-style bags
- Non-woven polypropylene bags
All items have been sealed and will be used as evidence in upcoming legal proceedings.
Factory Machines Caught in Action
Upon entering the premises, officials discovered the factory’s machinery in full operation. The individual responsible for the site was formally cautioned and has been charged with illegal manufacturing.
Samples of the confiscated products have been dispatched for laboratory analysis to confirm their composition.
Ongoing Investigation
While the raid was significant in scale, authorities reported that the operation was carried out without incident. A full investigation into the factory’s activities is currently underway to determine the extent of the illegal trade.
