5-Day Mission: Mauritius and Senegal Strengthen Anti-Financial Crime Cooperation

Mauritius and Senegal have bolstered their joint efforts against financial crime, money laundering, and terrorism financing following a high-level visit to the Mauritian Financial Crimes Commission (FCC).

Key Details and Model Status

A Senegalese delegation, accompanied by representatives from the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) at the US Embassy in Senegal, recently completed a benchmarking mission to the FCC.

The mission, which ran from 10 to 14 November, aimed explicitly to strengthen ties between the two nations in the fight against:

• Financial crime
• Money laundering
• Terrorism financing

Sanjay Dawoodarry, the interim Director General of the FCC, highlighted the significance of the exchange.

He stated that the FCC, and by extension Mauritius, is being seen as a “model in the fight against corruption and financial crimes” by “international investigative agencies.”

Mr. Dawoodarry emphasised the mutual benefits of the visit, calling it a “precious opportunity to strengthen our capacities and share our good practices.”

He also confirmed that the Mauritian team “learned a lot” from their Senegalese counterparts and offered thanks to the US Embassy for facilitating the meeting.
