Motorists heading towards Ébène face weeks of guaranteed congestion after the busy route was restricted to a single lane, effective from Saturday, 22 November.

Roadworks Halve Capacity on Julius Nyerere Road

The most significant immediate impact for drivers is the reduction of the Julius Nyerere Road to a single lane in one direction. This change, which began today, is in effect between the Bank Street Junction (near Maeva Tower) and the roundabout leading to Cybercity.

The essential measure is being implemented to facilitate ongoing modernisation works on the Julius Nyerere Road.

Weeks of Disruption Ahead

The lane restriction and subsequent traffic slowdown are anticipated to last for nearly a month, with the measure set to remain in place until 19 December.

Drivers are already subject to a mandatory speed limit of 40 km/h and are being urged to respect the temporary restriction.

Areas Expected to Be Hit Hardest

Predictable knock-on effects and severe congestion are expected during peak hours across the area, specifically impacting:

  • Ébène
  • Réduit
  • Tribeca Mall

The road will be re-aligned at points to allow the construction work to progress.

Ministry Apologises and Seeks Public Cooperation

The Ministry of Land Transport has apologised for the expected inconvenience and formally requested the collaboration of the public during this period.
