Hunger Strike Threat as Special Needs Staff Denounce 4-Month Pay Lapse

Staff from specialised schools have staged a protest in Port Louis, voicing their anger and distress over a staggering four-month delay in their salary payments.

The employees, accompanied by the Confédération des Travailleurs des Secteurs Public et Privé (CTSP), rallied outside the office of Minister Ashok Subron on Wednesday, November 5.

Strike Action Threat Looms

The workers’ plight was highlighted by CTSP leader Reeaz Chuttoo, who issued a stark warning regarding potential escalation.

“If nothing changes, the employees concerned will begin a hunger strike,” the trade unionist cautioned.

Chuttoo also announced that the CTSP plans to initiate “strong actions” in the coming days unless the situation is resolved.

The demonstration specifically targeted Minister Subron’s office in the capital.
