Air Disaster Drill: 8 Agencies Mobilise in Simulation at Plaisance Airport
The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport at Plaisance was the scene of dramatic action, Wednesday 22 October, as a major simulation exercise tested the readiness of emergency services following a staged air accident.
The operation, codenamed “Fire Ball 2025,” was designed to evaluate the speed and efficiency of the response to a potential aviation disaster.
A significant mobilisation of various agencies was observed during the drill. Participants included the fire services, the Special Mobile Force (SMF), the Ministry of Health, the police, the Helicopter Squadron team, and personnel from Airports of Mauritius Ltd.
The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was also involved, working to ensure a rapid intervention in line with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (OACI).
The event drew considerable public attention, with passers-by captivated by the spectacle, and images from the simulation quickly circulated across social media platforms.
