Former Finance Minister’s Travel Bid Hits Police and FCC Objection

The application by Renganaden Padayachy, the former Finance Minister, to temporarily lift his travel ban has been met with objections from both the Police and the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) in the Port Louis Court. The law enforcement bodies cite a potential flight risk concerning the ex-minister, who is currently seeking permission to travel abroad.
Court Hears Risk Concerns
The core of the objection is the stated fear that Mr. Padayachy, who is the subject of ongoing financial investigations related to controversial transactions involving the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC), might not return if allowed to leave the jurisdiction.
Revised Itinerary Awaits Verdict
Mr. Padayachy had initially requested permission to leave the territory between 25 October 2025 and 31 January 2026 for professional missions spanning France, England, and India.
However, these dates and destinations were subsequently revised to a single trip to France from 26 October to 4 November 2025.
The former minister has sworn on his honour regarding his intentions, and the Court has adjourned the matter to deliver its verdict on his motion in two days, specifically on Thursday, 23 October.
