Man Arrested at Plaisance Airport with Rs 31.6 Million Cannabis Haul
A British national, travelling to Mauritius for a holiday, has been arrested at Plaisance Airport after authorities seized 26.3 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated local market value of Rs 31.6 million from his luggage.
The man, a 25-year-old suspected drug courier, was intercepted after arriving on a flight from Dubaï on Sunday, October 12.
Drug Concealed in False Bottoms
He was intercepted by the Custom Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA). The drug was discovered concealed in the double bottom of his suitcases when he was confronted by officials.
The suspect has been formally charged with drug importation.
Investigation Continues
An attempted “Controlled Delivery” exercise, carried out by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSNU) to trace any potential local recipients, did not yield any results.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
