Child, 18 Months, Drowns in Pointe-aux-Canonniers Pool Tragedy

A tragic incident on Tuesday afternoon, 7 October, saw an 18-month-old child drown in a swimming pool at a residential property in Pointe-aux-Canonniers. The toddler was at the residence where his 21-year-old mother is employed as a cleaner.

Mother Discovered Missing Child

The tragedy unfolded while the mother was performing her household duties. According to initial police reports, she realised her son was missing and, after a brief search, found him unresponsive in the pool.

Death Confirmed at Clinic

The child was immediately rushed to a nearby clinic, but was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.

Investigation Launched

An autopsy has since been carried out, confirming the cause of death as asphyxia due to drowning. Police have opened an inquiry to fully establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
