Air Mauritius Flight MK748 Diverted After Mid-Air Medical Emergency

The national carrier’s plane returned to the Mauritius approximately two hours into the flight to disembark the critically ill passenger following the sudden medical emergency. Air Mauritius flight MK748 to Mumbai was forced to turn back to Mauritius on Tuesday, 7th October, after a passenger suffered a stroke (AVC) shortly after departure.
Emergency Response and Diversion
Air Mauritius confirmed the diversion via a press release, stating the decision to return was made when the accompanying doctor assessed that the passenger would not survive the flight to the final destination.
Ground crews were informed of the aircraft’s decision to turn back to Mauritius at 19:15 local time.
The aircraft landed at the airport at 21:18, and the passenger was quickly disembarked at 21:33 to be transferred immediately to Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital.
The passenger’s luggage, along with that of accompanying family members, was also offloaded at this time.
Resumption of Journey and Delays
The flight then resumed its journey shortly afterwards, adhering to crew duty time limitations.
However, the incident has resulted in significant disruption. Reservation agents worked to find new connecting flights for passengers with onward journeys.
As a consequence of the delay, the return flight, MK749, which was originally scheduled to arrive back in Mauritius on Wednesday, 8th October, at 07:30, is now expected to land at 12:30.
