GSEA Urges Government to Tackle Ébène Parking Crisis

The Government Services Employees Association (GSEA) has written to Housing and Lands Minister Shakeel Mohamed, calling for state land in Ébène to be converted into a public car park. The GSEA says that finding a parking space in the cybercity is a “major headache” for its members, leading to frustration and demotivation.
The Union’s Position
Gheerishsing Gopaul, the GSEA’s general secretary, said the union has received numerous complaints about the lack of affordable parking.
He noted that even when spaces are available, members have to pay for them out of their own pockets.
The GSEA also claims that ministries are unwilling to provide staff parking due to “unavailability and budget constraints.”
A Call for Collaboration
In its letter, the GSEA made a “pressing appeal” to the government to identify and allocate suitable land for a car park.
Gopaul acknowledged that the proposal would likely require the involvement of other ministries and departments.
However, he expressed confidence that a “durable solution” could be found through inter-ministerial collaboration.
