Megh Pillay has been proposed as the new Executive Chairperson of Airport Holdings Limited (AHL), following the withdrawal of the previous appointee, Frédéric Curé. This nomination, put forward during a Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, September 5th, comes after Curé, the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Paul Bérenger, declined the position on August 16th, just eight days after his own appointment.

Experience and Context

Pillay’s appointment comes at a time of significant challenges for the aviation sector. His extensive experience is expected to be a major asset in his new role.

He has previously led Air Mauritius on two separate occasions: as Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director from September 2003 to October 2005, and again as Chief Executive Officer from March to October 2016.

AHL, a key player in the aviation industry, was established in August 2021. It acts as a conglomerate overseeing the entire airport and airline ecosystem, including the management, operation, and development of airport infrastructure.

The company comprises more than 19 subsidiaries, including Air Mauritius, AML, and ATOL, and has expanded its interests into sectors like hospitality and real estate.
