Former BoM Deputy Governor Hands Over 2 Sets of Documents to FCC

Gérard Sanspeur, the former Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Mauritius (BOM), has officially escalated his campaign against the institution by filing a formal complaint with the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC). On Wednesday, September 3rd, he presented evidence to the commission, alleging irregularities in the handling of certain cases by the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC).
Accompanied by his lawyer, Antoine Domingue, Sanspeur submitted documents and information to the FCC.
This action follows his public revelations at a press conference on Friday, August 29th.
After providing an initial batch of documents, he stated, “I don’t think it will be long, but there will be another session tomorrow,” hinting at further cooperation with the authorities.
Allegations of Tampering and External Influence
Among the documents handed over were the “Minutes of Proceedings” from the Bank of Mauritius’s board meetings regarding specific MIC cases.
Sanspeur is claiming these minutes may have been manipulated. He also alleged that an “external person” attempted to influence him.
Sanspeur is scheduled to return to the FCC on Thursday, September 4, to present a more comprehensive account of the events.
During his press conference, he mentioned the existence of a recording of a conversation between Adam and Aditi Boolell, stating that if it were released, Rama Sithanen would be forced to resign within hours.
He also brought up the alleged blocking of a land sale to the company Sotravic.
A Backdrop of Internal Conflict
Sanspeur’s resignation from his position at the Bank of Mauritius occurred amid significant internal tensions.
His departure followed a direct request from Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, who asked him to step down due to “great pressures.”
The ongoing investigation and Sanspeur’s public disclosures have brought these internal conflicts to the forefront.
