SP Jagai Remanded in Custody till 27th August as FCC Probe Continues

The former head of the defunct Police Headquarters Special Striking Team appeared in a Port Louis court on Thursday, August 21, where his bail application was opposed by the FCC, who cited an ongoing inquiry. The police superintendent, Ashik Jagai, has been remanded in custody as the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) continues its investigation.
The case has been adjourned until August 27. Jagai was provisionally arrested on August 13 on charges of a public official using his office for gratification.
The charges are being brought under sections 7(1) and 83 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PoCA) 2002, as well as sections 22(1) and 145 of the FCC Act.
