Wakashio Shipwreck 2020: DPP Confirms Never Receiving the Full Investigation Report
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has stated that he has never received the complete report from the Court of Investigation regarding the Wakashio shipwreck. In a press release issued this 31st July, the DPP’s office confirmed that, despite two official requests made in March 2023 and again in 2025, the full report has not been provided.
The DPP clarified that in March 2023, a letter was sent to the Police Commissioner requesting the opening of an investigation into potential violations based on the recommendations in the report.
Additionally, following a parliamentary question on July 12, the Ministry of Agro-Industry asked the DPP’s office about the status of the investigation. This inquiry was then forwarded to the police.
According to the Central Police Station, an official request for the full report was made to the Ministry of Agro-Industry on March 30, 2023. However, to date, no copy of the report has been received.
