Rs 6.2 Million Stolen at Top Insurance Executive’s Beachfront Villa

A burglary occurred at the beachfront villa of a 68-year-old director of a major insurance company in Pereybère.

The director reported to police on Saturday 17th May that the break-in happened between 11:30 p.m. Friday and early Saturday morning.

According to his complaint, the thief forced open the sliding door of the ground-floor living room.

The thief stole six mobile phones, a wallet, Earpods, a flashlight, and a pair of binoculars.

Inside a safe, the thief also took gold jewelry, watches, valuables, and important documents. The total estimated loss is Rs 6.2 million.

The stolen items are covered by the director’s insurance policy, as well as a second insurance company.

Villa Heist: Guard Quizzed

The villa, which has access to the beach, does not have security cameras or an alarm system.

However, there is a security guard, a 43-year-old man, assigned there on a daily basis.

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Grand-Baie is investigating the theft.

The security guard was questioned but denied any involvement. Police also searched his house but found nothing suspicious. He was subsequently released.
