4.9 magnitude earthquake detected off coast Rodrigues

A 4.9 magnitude earthquake was detected Sunday afternoon 410Km north east of Port Mathurin, Rodrigues.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake happened just before 1.30pm.

The earthquake was 10 kilometers in-depth.

Energy released during the quake was estimated at 1.4 x 10¹² joules (392 megawatt hours, equivalent to 338 tons of TNT explosives).
