Consumers Association allowed to hold second rally
The Consumers Association of Mauritius (ACIM) has finally been allowed to hold its second rally against the rise in the prices of petroleum products, despite initial objections from the Police.
The first rally, held last month, also attracted trade unions, civil rights activists and numerous NGOs – all denounced the “way the country is being run.”
On resorting to the Supreme Court, the ACIM forced the State Law Office, representing the Police, to reportedly make a u-turn. And Police had no objection anymore, “as long as all security directives are adhered to.”
A new date for the rally is being finalized.
