The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) has claimed it will not go ahead with its intentions to decrypt and regulate social networks if an agreement is reached with Facebook.

Citing a press release, Defi Media cited ICTA as saying it has received the “point of view” of Facebook.

“The regulator is of the opinion that if the two parties reach an agreement, the ICTA will not go ahead with its proposal to use a technological tool aimed at decrypting Facebook traffic in the event of a complaint.”

Facebook will reportedly hire a creole-speaking ‘market specialist’ and intends to “engage with ICTA” to keep harmful content offline.

ICTA received 2,194 responses to its consultation paper.

Herewith an extract of ICTA’s press release published in Defi Media.
