World Health Day: Ministry Offers 7 Essential Screenings to Local Residents
A new national prevention programme targeting non-communicable diseases (NCDs) will be rolled out across island communities this month as part of World Health Day commemorations.
The Ministry of Health is scheduled to launch the initiative on 11 April at the Bel-Air-Rivière-Sèche Mediclinic.
The move follows a Cabinet briefing on this year’s global health event, celebrated annually on 7 April, which carries the theme: “Together for health. Support science!”
Community Health Screenings
The programme aims to decentralise essential medical services, bringing them directly to the public to encourage proactive health management. Key components of the launch include:
- NCD Screenings: Testing for diabetes, blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), and vision.
- Cancer Prevention: Screenings for breast and cervical cancer.
- Medical Consultations: Access to professional health advice and check-ups.
Education and Early Diagnosis
In addition to clinical tests, the initiative will focus on preventative education. Health officials will display healthy food plate models and conduct educational sessions to promote better lifestyle choices.
The primary objective of these activities is to foster early diagnosis and empower individuals to take charge of their wellbeing, ensuring that vital health resources are more accessible to the local population.
