Warning for Mauritius as 50km/H Gusts Strike South and West Lagoons
Maritime activities have been suspended across several coastal regions as an anticyclone positioned southwest of the Mascarenes brings moderate trade winds and turbulent sea conditions to the area.
The Vacoas meteorological station issued a bulletin this Friday, 10 April, warning of wind gusts reaching 50 km/h. While southeasterly winds are expected to average 20 km/h, the localized peaks have prompted officials to advise against all excursions into the open sea.
Maritime Safety Warnings
The sea is reported to be heavy beyond the reefs, with southwest swells reaching heights of 2.5 metres. Authorities have issued a specific advisory for the following areas:
- High seas: All activities discouraged.
- West and South lagoons: Excursions discouraged, though conditions are expected to improve gradually overnight.
Forecast and Temperatures
Despite the wind warnings, the daily outlook remains largely positive. Following early morning showers over higher ground, the weather is expected to be fair throughout the day, with clear skies persisting into the night.
Temperature fluctuations across the island are projected as follows:
| Region | Daytime High | Overnight Low |
| Central Plateau / High Ground | 26°C to 28°C | 19°C to 21°C |
| Coastal Regions / Littoral | 30°C to 32°C | 23°C to 25°C |
Residents and visitors are urged to remain cautious near western and southern shorelines until the swells subside.
