Rising Respiratory Infections Surge Past 4,000 Cases Triggering Vaccine Push
An increase in upper respiratory tract infections has prompted health authorities to urge high-risk individuals to get vaccinated as weekly cases in the country climbed to 4,148.
The latest figures, recorded for the week of 25 to 31 May, mark a rise from the 4,015 cases reported the previous week, underscoring a continuing upward trend across the nation.
In response to the surge, health officials are strongly advising vulnerable groups—including the elderly, pregnant women, and patients suffering from chronic illnesses—to come forward for the influenza vaccine to protect themselves against severe complications.
The vaccination roll-out is currently active across five regional hospitals, operating from 9am to 3pm on weekdays, and from 9am to 11am on Saturdays. For wider accessibility, the jab is also being offered once a week at selected community health centres.
Alongside the vaccination drive, authorities have issued a reminder on essential preventative measures to curb the spread. The public is being advised to wear face masks in crowded areas, wash their hands regularly, protect themselves against the cold weather, and isolate immediately if they begin to experience symptoms.
