The Cabinet has greenlit a strategic rescue package for the tourism industry to mitigate the economic fallout from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The measures, approved during Friday’s, 10 April ministerial meeting, focus on a significant expansion of air travel capacity and a tactical pivot in international marketing to safeguard the nation’s vital travel sector.

Surge in Flight Capacity

In a bid to restore seat availability, the government has confirmed an immediate increase in direct flights and temporary frequency boosts. Key developments include:

  • Air Mauritius (MK): Six additional flights to Paris scheduled between 23 March and 29 April 2026.
  • Turkish Airlines: Three additional weekly flights for a duration of one year.

Authorities will also maintain close monitoring of airline flight resumptions during the current ceasefire period.

Strategic Market Shift

To counteract regional instability, marketing efforts are being intensified to reassure global travellers.

A core component of the new strategy involves rapidly redeploying resources toward “higher-performing” markets.

The Cabinet identified South Africa, India, Australia, and Reunion Island as the primary targets for these intensified promotional campaigns, ensuring the destination remains resilient despite the geopolitical climate.
