Pritvee Lalljee, also known as Ashwan Lalljee, was arrested by officers from the Eastern Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) and has been provisionally charged with attempted murder.

The incident, which occurred around midday on Tuesday, 7 April, took place while the victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a white car parked at the Bagatelle shopping centre.

The Attack

Witnesses described a scene of panic as the assailant approached the vehicle armed with a sword in his right hand.

Without warning, he allegedly delivered multiple blows to the victim’s body.

The victim was rushed to the hospital by a relative, where her condition remains a significant concern.

Due to the severity of her injuries, she has been unable to provide a formal statement to investigators.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a grey vehicle, prompting an intensive police search. Officers from the Moka Criminal Investigation Division (CID) used CCTV footage and witness accounts to identify Lalljee.

During interrogation, Lalljee reportedly claimed the attack was motivated by his displeasure with the victim “interfering in his life.”

Legal Complications and Connections

Lalljee’s arrest comes amid existing legal scrutiny. He was already under investigation by St-Pierre police for suspected breaches of the Information and Communication Technologies Act related to an online video.

Furthermore, Lalljee recently gained public attention after swearing an affidavit on 4 March regarding the high-profile death of Soopramanien Kistnen, who was found dead in a Moka cane field in 2020.

In that legal document, Lalljee alleged he had information regarding the case obtained through a previous relationship with a woman he met on social media.

In his affidavit, he claimed to have seen large sums of cash at the woman’s home and alleged she had named several individuals involved in the Kistnen case.

Ongoing Investigation

While Lalljee has been presented before the Bail and Remand Court, authorities are proceeding with caution.

Police are currently working to establish the exact timeline of the Bagatelle stabbing and determine the precise motive behind the assault.

The victim remains under medical supervision as the investigation continues.
