Heavy Rain Warning Triggers Flight Cancellations in Rodrigues
A heavy rain warning was in force across Rodrigues as persistent downpours lashed the island on Sunday, 15 March, leading to the cancellation of multiple flights and reports of rising water levels in several regions.

The severe weather conditions forced the cancellation of Air Mauritius flights MK 136/137, MK 140/141, and MK 150/151 scheduled for Sunday, 15 March 2026.
One service, flight MK 136, was compelled to turn back to Mauritius mid-journey.
Passengers currently at SSR International Airport, including those already checked in for flight MK 140, are being assisted by Air Mauritius ground staff.
The airline’s call centre remains in active communication with travellers departing from Rodrigues, with all affected passengers set to be notified of new travel arrangements once flights can be safely rescheduled.
Local Impact and Safety Warnings
The island has been “copiously watered” since Sunday, 15 March, marking a definitive end to a prolonged period of water scarcity experienced by the local population.
However, the intensity of the precipitation has caused water levels to rise significantly in certain areas.
Authorities have issued a plea for public vigilance, advising residents to:
- Exercise extreme caution during the ongoing warning.
- Avoid zones prone to flooding and sudden water accumulation.
While the rainfall provides much-needed relief after a long dry spell, the immediate focus remains on safety and the restoration of transport links as soon as conditions improve.
