Electronics Stores in Tribeca Hit in Rs 3M Heist, CID Investigates

A pair of electronics stores in the Tribeca Mall were burgled, with thieves making off with an estimated Rs 3 million worth of goods and cash. The two shops, which are under the same ownership, were targeted after their surveillance cameras were tampered with.

The theft was reported to the Rose-Hill police on Sunday, September 7, 2025, by the director of the two establishments.

The Rose-Hill Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has since launched an investigation into the matter.

Camera Systems Compromised

The director discovered the theft on the evening of September 4 while inspecting his first store.

He found that the surveillance cameras had been moved and that the DVR system responsible for recording the footage had been deactivated.

When questioned, the director’s part-time employees, who are all Malagasy students, could not provide a valid explanation for the camera’s new position.

Suspicious of an intrusion, the director conducted an initial inspection and found several items missing from the shelves.

He then proceeded to his second store in the same complex, where he found that the video surveillance system had also been compromised.

Inventory Reveals Extensive Loss

On Sunday, the director performed a thorough inventory of both stores, which revealed a significant number of missing items. The stolen goods include:

  • Gaming consoles: Various models of PlayStation
  • Electronics: Mobile phones and cameras
  • Accessories: Charging cables, adapters, screen protectors, ink cartridges, portable batteries, wireless headphones, USB drives, memory cards, computer mice, keyboards, Wi-Fi repeaters, cooling fans, converters, Bluetooth devices, portable speakers, and external hard drives.

In addition to the merchandise, nearly Rs 1 million in cash, accumulated from sales since January, was also stolen, bringing the total loss to Rs 3 million.

The director has provided the CID with a list of his employees as the police continue their investigation.
