Alert in Mauritius as 2 Regions Brace for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms
A heavy rain watch is in effect across Mauritius this Wednesday, 1 April, with weather officials warning of localized downpours and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon.
The Vacoas Meteorological Station issued the bulletin at 11:15 am this Wednesday, 1 April.
The warning remains in force until 7:00 pm tonight, as unstable and humid atmospheric conditions over the region trigger the formation of active cloud patterns.
Regional Impact and Conditions
Forecasters expect moderate to heavy localized showers to develop across the southern half of the island and parts of the Central Plateau.
These conditions are likely to be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms.
Residents in low-lying areas have been advised of the following risks:
- Flash Flooding: Water accumulation is probable in flood-prone zones.
- Poor Visibility: Driving conditions may become hazardous due to fog and heavy rainfall.
The meteorological office will continue to monitor the humid air mass as it moves across the region.
