Amendments have been brought to the COVID-19 (Restriction of Access to Specified Institutions, Places and Premises) extending the list of locations where non-vaccinated people will not be given access.

As such, those who have not had the jab yet will be refused entry at around 40 locations, unless they present a negative PCR or rapid test of less than seven days or if they have a detailed medical certificate certified by two doctors in the public sector attesting that they cannot be vaccinated.

If you are found at any of these restricted places, you could be fined up to Rs 500,000 and convicted to a prison sentence of up to five years.

Places where you need to show your vaccination card Digital pass:

1. Public and private educational institutions, ranging from nurseries to higher education establishments

Exemptions:

  • Students under 18
  • The father, mother or guardian who accompanies the student to his school for the purposes of vaccination
  • The father, mother or guardian of a student who must have access due to a medical emergency

2. Health institutions (public and private) including dispensaries, Community Health Centers, medical clinics, dental offices and medical practices

Exemptions:

  • Students under 18
  • People in need of treatment
  • Person accompanying a sick person
  • Person who comes to get medicines

3. Shelters, residences for seniors, shelters for women, rehabilitation centers and Residential Care Homes

Exemptions:

  • Residents of these institutions or new residents
  • Children and women who need to be taken care of
  • Sick or disabled people who need care
  • Pregnant women or those who have just given birth
  • People who need support
  • Anyone in distress
  • Children who are victims of violence, abuse and neglect
  • Victims of domestic violence
  • People under the age of 18

4. Prisons, Correctional Youth Centers, Rehabilitation Youth Centers and Detention Centers

Exemptions:

  • Inmates
  • Children of the staff of these institutions who are under the age of 18
  • The father, mother or guardian visiting an inmate under the age of 18

5. Probation Hostels for Boys and Girls

Exemptions:

  • People under the age of 18
  • The father, mother or guardian visiting inmate under the age of 18

6. Airports of Mauritius and Rodrigues

Exemptions:

  • Crew members of an aircraft leaving or landing on the tarmac other than Air Mauritius
  • A passenger and an accompanying person
  • Anyone under 18

7. Port of Port-Louis and Port Mathurin

Exemptions:

  • A passenger and an accompanying person
  • Crew members of an arriving or departing boat
  • Anyone under 18

8. Child Care Services Establishment

Exemptions:

  • Anyone under 18

9. Fire stations

Exemptions:

  • Anyone under 18
  • Complainants

10. Dormitories

No exemptions

11. Beauty salons, aesthetics, hairdressing and make-up

Exemption:

  • Anyone under 18

12. Cinemas, theater and concert halls

Exemption:

  • Anyone under 18

13. Restaurants, snacks, pubs, bars and tables d’hôtes

Exemption:

  • Anyone under 18

14. Private clubs other than night clubs

Exemption:

  • Anyone under 18

15. Hotels and Guest Houses

Exemption:

  • Anyone under 18

16. Health clubs, sports centers, sports complexes, gyms and spas

Exemption:

  • Anyone under 18

17. Casinos and gambling houses

No exemption

18. Reception halls and chapels

Staffs are not exempt

19. Tourist residences and estates

Staffs are not exempt

20. Police stations and Police Headquarters

Exemptions:

  • Inmates
  • Anyone under arrest
  • Anyone under 18
  • Anyone who has an obligation to report to the police
  • Anyone wishing to have police assistance
