Emtel Revenues Soar Past Rs 4 Billion Mark During a Fantastic 2025 Year
Telecommunications leader Emtel has hit a historic financial milestone, with annual revenues surging past Rs 4 billion for the first time.
The group’s financial results for the year ending 31 December 2025 reveal a significant leap from Rs 3.7 billion the previous year.
Outgoing CEO Kresh Goomany, concluding a 34-year career at the firm, described 2025 as a “fantastic year” that has solidified the company’s transition into a diversified technology powerhouse.
Profits and Dividends Climb
The fiscal year was defined by robust growth across mobile, home, enterprise, and fintech sectors. Key financial highlights include:
- Pre-tax profit: Rose by 27.4% to reach Rs 796 million.
- EBITDA: Increased by 15.3%, with margins improving to 49.7%.
- Shareholder Returns: A total dividend of Rs 2.42 per share was declared, including a special dividend, totaling Rs 1.1 billion in distributions.
Mr Goomany attributed the performance to a decade of heavy lifting in infrastructure. “All the investments we have made in technology, data centres, cyber-security, and AI are bearing fruit,” he said.
Infrastructure and 5G Reach
The operator has now achieved 90% 5G population coverage, marking the completion of a rollout initiated in 2022.
The company’s terrestrial fibre network has expanded to 743 kilometres, connecting smart cities, business parks, and social housing projects across the island.
To ensure international resilience, Emtel has bolstered its undersea cable capacity and its 13-year-old Data Centre, which houses the firm’s sovereign cloud and AI systems.
Sovereign Cloud and Fintech Expansion
A major strategic shift in 2025 saw the launch of a locally-hosted sovereign cloud platform.
This allows Mauritian businesses and public institutions to ensure their data remains within national borders—a move Mr Goomany described as essential for “Data Sovereignty.”
The company’s fintech arm, Blink, also reported strong momentum. Active users grew by 9,400 to reach a total of 31,000, supported by the introduction of “Sound Boxes” and new digital payment terminals for merchants.
Regional Resilience and Green Goals
In a move to protect regional connectivity, Emtel established a Business Continuity platform for Rodrigues using Eutelsat OneWeb satellite technology, ensuring the island remains connected even during submarine cable failures.
On the sustainability front, the group was integrated into the Stock Exchange of Mauritius Sustainability Index (SEMSI).
The company has collected 39 tonnes of electronic waste since 2019 and continues to install solar panels across its operational sites.
Future Outlook
As Mr Goomany prepares to step down after 11 years as CEO, the group enters 2026 with plans to accelerate the monetisation of its digital platforms.
However, leadership remains cautious, citing potential global economic pressures and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that could impact future costs.
