1 Dead in Port Louis Crash after Driver Tests Positive for Alcohol and Drugs
A passenger has been killed in a high-speed collision on Nicolay Road early this Saturday morning, 24 January, after a vehicle careened off the road and struck a set of guardrails. The driver of the vehicle has since tested positive for both alcohol and illegal substances following a police intervention at the scene.
The Incident
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 05:30 near the former BAT building. According to initial reports, the car veered off its path, resulting in a violent impact with the roadside barriers.
The front-seat passenger sustained critical injuries in the crash and tragically passed away.
Police Investigation
Officers from the Plaine-Verte police station arrived shortly after the incident to secure the area and begin their enquiries. Following the crash, the driver was subjected to mandatory testing which confirmed the presence of:
