Three men, aged between 19 and 28, were arrested and subsequently released by police in connection with the theft of copper cables worth over Rs 450,000 from a construction site in Côte-d’Or.

The individuals, detained on the same night as the reported crime, were questioned by officers from the Moka Criminal Investigation Division (CID) after being identified as the owners of vehicles abandoned at the scene.

They all denied involvement and were permitted to leave after verification, though they remain available for further investigation, according to police.

The theft, which occurred at a building site in Technopole, Côte-d’Or, between the night of 1st and 2nd December, involved the alleged loss of the valuable copper cables.

Five Suspects Flee Scene

The incident unfolded when a night guard, the sole on-site security as the location had no surveillance cameras, noticed suspicious vehicles circling the perimeter.

CID Moka reported that initial information suggested two individuals entered the site to cut the cables, while three others were seen transporting them across the road.

The guard immediately alerted the site supervisor, who rushed to the location. Upon their arrival, five suspects immediately fled the scene.

Abandoned Evidence Aids Police

The fleeing thieves left behind several crucial pieces of evidence, now in the possession of the Moka police.

These items include a car, a motorcycle, a helmet, bags, and a mobile phone without a SIM card.

Investigators used information provided by the National Transport Authority to trace the owners of the abandoned vehicles, leading to the prompt arrests.

Police confirmed they are continuing their search to identify and apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the theft.

The article noted that the theft of copper cables is a growing problem in recent months due to the escalating market value of the metal.
