Public Consultation on Electoral Reform Set to Launch in Mauritius
The Mauritian public will soon be invited to submit proposals on the long-anticipated electoral reform, following a decision by the Council of Ministers this Friday.
The Cabinet confirmed that an official communiqué from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is expected in the coming days to initiate the public consultation process.
To manage the expected inflow of public input, a dedicated office will be established within the PMO solely for the purpose of receiving all submissions and contributions related to the reform.
In a separate but related development, the Council of Ministers also noted on Friday, November 28, that the composition of the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) is nearing its final stage.
The Cabinet confirmed that the issue of electoral reform will be examined separately from the work of the CRC.
