Armed Thugs Tie Up and Rob 3 Hikers in Nightmare Attack
Three friends were violently assaulted, threatened with a machete, axe, and large knife, and tied up with cable ties during a harrowing ordeal by armed, hooded men after a hike at Mare Longue reservoir, Plaine Champagne, on Saturday, October 4.
The victims were forced to kneel before being bound by the assailants, who were wearing black hooded sweatshirts.
The attackers escalated the violence when one of the victims, attempting to calm the situation, was struck on the head with the handle of the axe.
Following the assault, the criminals then threatened the trio with reprisals before stealing their belongings, which included three mobile phones, cash, an identity card, a set of keys, and the ignition key for one hiker’s car. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at approximately Rs 489,150.
Escalation and Escape
The brutality continued as the attackers further restrained their victims by tying them to guava trees and taping their mouths shut before fleeing in the stolen car.
According to the statement lodged by the 37-year-old female hiker, the incident occurred around 1:55 PM as they were returning to their vehicle.
Investigation Underway
One of the victims managed to break free “a few minutes later” and sought help from a local resident, who immediately came to the aid of the other two.
The hikers’ vehicle was found abandoned the following morning, Sunday, October 5, in Le Dauguet, Tranquebar. An investigation has been launched to locate the perpetrators of the attack.
