25 Administrative Roles at Risk as Sotravic Seeks Redundancy Board Approval

The Mauritian firm has submitted an application to the Redundancy Board (RB), citing “unsustainable” operational costs due to a lack of new projects. Twenty-five administrative employees at Sotravic Ltée are facing redundancy as the Mauritian engineering company seeks to cut costs.

The case was heard September 17, by the RB, chaired by Rashid Hossen.

The board has ordered Sotravic to provide detailed information on its application, including the names of the affected employees and documentation of negotiations held with them.

The case has been adjourned until the 30th, allowing the employees to present their version of events.

Company Cites Winding Down Projects

Sotravic Ltée stated that many of its major contracts are nearing completion, with most being 93% to 97% finished.

These include projects for the National Development Unit (NDU), the Central Water Authority (CWA), and the Wastewater Management Authority (WMA).

The company claims to have exhausted all other options to avoid redundancies, including employee redeployment, reduced working hours, and negotiations.

It now proposes to begin the layoffs at the end of September 2025, committing to provide 30 days’ notice and severance pay in line with the RB’s final decision and legal requirements.

Sotravic, a major player in Mauritian engineering and construction, employs approximately one thousand people.

The company has a strong presence in the fields of sanitation, water infrastructure, waste management, and renewable energy, serving both public and private clients.
