U.S. Embassy Strengthens Ties with Mauritius, Presents New 4 Key Diplomats
Newly arrived US diplomats have been presented at a reception hosted by the US Ambassador to Mauritius, Henry V. Jardine, at his official residence. The event, which brought together guests from various sectors, marked a new phase in the partnership between the two nations, with a reinforced team and expanded cooperation prospects.
New Faces at the Embassy
The new arrivals were introduced at the reception, including a new Deputy Chief of Mission, as well as new heads of the consular, public affairs, management, and political sections.
These officers bring international experience from previous postings in countries such as Madagascar, Kenya, Fiji, and Haiti.
Among the new officers are John Ries (Consular Section Chief), Christopher Crawford (Management Officer), Austin Lewis (Deputy Chief of the Political and Economic Section), and Elena “Beth” Creason (Public Affairs Officer). Ms. Creason’s role includes managing media relations, civil society engagement, and student outreach, as well as the mission’s broader communications.
Diplomatic Dialogue and Cooperation
During the reception, Ambassador Jardine reviewed several areas of cooperation.
He highlighted ongoing security initiatives with the US Department of Justice and the FBI, which are set to expand.
He also underscored the continued priority of academic and cultural exchange programmes, such as the Fulbright Program and the International Visitor Leadership Program.
On the economic front, the Ambassador mentioned the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), noting the bipartisan support in the US Congress for its extension.
He also commended the Mauritian Parliament’s adoption of a text on Diego Garcia, which he said reaffirmed the regional cooperation between the US, the UK, and Mauritius.
The Ambassador also touched on the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, which the Mauritian Prime Minister is expected to attend after a visit to India.
This visit will provide an opportunity for diplomatic meetings and discussions on regional and international issues.
