100 SEN Carers Still Awaiting July Salaries Amidst Ministry Fund Suspension

The Confederation of Workers of the Public and Private Sectors (CTSP) is urgently demanding action to address the salary delays affecting approximately 100 carers at Special Education Needs (SEN) schools. These employees, many of whom are from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), have been without their July salaries, leaving them in a precarious financial situation.

Union negotiator Reeaz Chuttoo stated that the holdup is due to the relevant ministry suspending the disbursement of funds.

This suspension is in place while a new committee, responsible for managing these allocations, is established.

The CTSP held a demonstration this week to highlight the severity of the situation.

Chuttoo warned that the salary blockage is worsening, directly impacting day care centers and leaving vulnerable individuals with disabilities, who depend on these carers, in a fragile state. “This is unacceptable,” he declared.

A formal complaint has been filed with the Ministry of Social Security. The unionist also publicly criticised the minister responsible for the delay, stating:

“Minister Ashok Subron dares to go and lay wreaths in front of the statue of Emmanuel Anquetil. This is an aberration.”

The CTSP is appealing to authorities to act without delay to prevent further hardship for these employees.
