264 Tablets Seized in Illicit Drug Bust: Doctor, Pharmacist arrested
The anti-drug unit of Rose-Belle has uncovered a structured network involved in the illegal sale of psychotropic drugs. The investigation started when officers were informed about the unregulated sale of these pills on the local drug market, despite strict controls by the Pharmacy Board. Several individuals were placed under discreet surveillance.
On May 20, the first suspect was arrested. Police found a 31-year-old male resident of L’Escalier, with 264 psychotropic tablets and Rs 5,275 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from illegal sales.
Investigators then intensified their efforts to trace the source of the drugs.
The following day, May 21, a 35 year-old male chef living in Rose-Hill, was also arrested.
He was found with 241 psychotropic tablets and Rs 13,600 in cash. Under the cover of posing as potential buyers, officers entered a pharmacy in a suburb of Rose-Hill and made two more arrests: a 34 year-old female pharmacist and a year-old female doctor.
Drug dealing
They face charges of drug dealing and facilitating drug offenses.
During the raid, polioce officers seized Rs 105,000 hidden in a box, an additional Rs 17,000, and 60 tablets of Xanor and 60 of Lycra.
The pharmacy’s sales records for psychotropic drugs were found to be non-compliant with regulations.
On May 23, the two women appeared before the Rose-Hill court. Despite police objections, they were granted bail—a decision that reportedly caused concern among investigators.
Meanwhile, the two male suspects remain in detention as the investigation continues.
